Case is the story of Bob (a night porter looking for a new direction), Sarah (the escort he falls in love with), Manny (the gangster who hires him to deliver a briefcase), Louise (Manny’s girlfriend), Dan, Paul and Bolt (Bob’s mates who end up in possession of the briefcase), Kath Fletcher (Bob’s girlfriend), Mr. Fletcher (Kath’s father), Mrs. Fletcher (his wife), two corrupt cops, a couple of Mormons and Darren and Sharon (who kidnap Mr. Fletcher’s poodle).
"All in all there really is some sharp writing. Which ever way you look at it the guy has talent.”
Patrick Pease, Script Reader
“The first time I read "Way Out West" [now called "Case"] my eyes were so sore (eye–strain: the script reader's curse) I thought I'd just do twenty pages and resume in the morning. But Dave Bishop's dialogue made me laugh so much I had to keep reading … the script kept me going on laughter alone for a further 104 pages till the very hilarious climactic scene and ending. Dave Bishop's characters each had a wonderful line of patter, and there were some very intriguing speeches peppered here and there between the many laughs of his strangely compelling story. Thanks to Dave Bishop I went to bed feeling happy, despite my stinging eyes, because I'd been heartily entertained – a rare experience for the script assessor.”
Greg Woodland, Australian Writers' Guild Assessor
Following its success in Project Greenlight, Case was selected for a public reading at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. Following that reading, an all-star Aussie cast signed letters of attachment based on the strength of the script. Case is an ensemble film and just look at the ensemble;

Feel free to check out the script most people tend to enjoy it.
The script was originally written as a contemporary piece but could now be considered a period piece. It's set in the year 1999 which may not seem like a long time ago but the world was a different place. Flannel and grunge still existed, mobile phones were bricks, nobody even knew what google was and found other means of searching for slow-loading porn. In fact, if we are successful in getting Case off the ground we're going to try and work in as many 1990's cliche's as is possible without disrupting the narrative.
Case is entirely set in Perth, Western Austrlalia and in may ways it is about Perth the city and the one degree of separation phenomenon that exists there. Perth is a decent sized city but, for some mysterious reason everyone, has one degree of separation to everyone else in Perth. It's an entertaining, comedic drama. The entire story takes place within 24 hours.
The Project Greenlight panel which included producers, executive producers and distributors all agreed that Case could be made for a million dollars but that was under the assumption of shooting on film (HD wasn't around). We reckon these days you could do it on the RED camera (the awesomest HD camera on the planet - and hugely cost effective) for a lot less than that.
If we really hit the mark we may look at a more ambitious film like ...
